The Hideout by Susanna Mattiangeli, Felicita Sala

It's time to go but Hannah is missing.  She's got a hideout at the park and she's taking refuge there.  She even has a real hairy friend that stays with her there...

Abrams Young Readers sent me a copy of this book to read for review (thank you).  It will be published June 4th.

You spend some time with Hannah in her hideout and learn what all she does there.  They hunt, cook, secure their hideout and more. She's very busy there.  When her parents finally get her attention, she's looking at a picture she's drawn of her hideout.  She was away in her imagination.

The illustrations by Felicita Sala are detailed and full of imagination, too.  It's a pleasant story that would good for a bedtime story.

I could relate to this because I used to visit friends that owned a willow tree.  We could go sit under the tree, behind the branches, and read.  We were hidden from folks there.  Ruby would come out to call us in the house and my friends just gave the shush signal.  Most of the time she didn't look under the tree, so we get a bit more reading in.  That's a pleasant memory for me so I enjoyed this story, too.
