Toby by Stacy A Nyikos

Watch out for the birds, crabs, and croc's, Toby!  Toby is a sea turtle.  Are you familiar with sea turtles?  They are amazing creatures!

The author and Provato Events invited me to be part of their blog tour and sent me a copy of this book to review (thank you).  Check with your local bookstore for a copy.

Toby is the last turtle to be born and the others have all gone down to the sea already.  At first, he's shy and hides in the shells.  Then the call of the sea touches him and he heads out.  He runs into danger on the way, but he has fun sliding down the sand dunes.  Luckily, he's not far from the sea and he finds swimming comes naturally.  So does eating!

This is a sweet story that shares some simple facts about sea turtles.  The author also provides additional facts at the end of story.  If you haven't seen photos of the baby turtles migrating to the water, look some up on the internet.  It's very impressive and they are obviously on a mission.

Here is an easy way to introduce your little one to turtles with simple text, beautiful illustrations by Shawn Sisnero, and a list of suggested books for additional learning.  This would be a nice resource for a teacher, too.

Happy reading.
