Frightfully Friendly Ghosties: Phantom Pirates by Daren King

This is a fun children's book to read.  It's got ghosts that aren't scary, silly pirates that make threats but don't hurt anybody, and it's fun for anyone with any imagination.

Quercus Books and Edelweiss let me read this book for review (thank you).  It will be published September 9th, so check with your local bookstore then for a copy.  There are others in the series you can read while waiting.

It's a holler-day and the ghosts want to go on a cruise.  Not all of them, mind you, but the majority.  When they win a cruise they are all excited and go down with their luggage to board.  The one who has misgivings takes a bit longer and they miss the cruise.  But there's an old derelict ship at the end of the dock they might use.  When they board it to look it over, it floats away.  Never mind catching the cruise now, it's heading in another direction.  And their luggage is still on the dock.

While they are trying to determine what to do, they suddenly find out they are on a pirate ship!  The pirates give them nasty chores to do and threaten them with punishment if they fail.  They fail.  They walk the plank, nobody gets hurt because they are ghosts.  So they go back on board and work on other tasks.

It's a silly fun read that children will enjoy and will read more than once.  This author has a good sense of humor as well as a good imagination and his books will become collectible, I'm sure.
