Welcome to Silver Street Farm by Nicola Davies

Meera, Gemma, and Karl have been fascinated with farms since they started school together and repaired all the broken animals in a toy farm they found in a box.  (Imagine if they found about Farmville!)  Since they live in the city, there's not much chance for them to have one.  But somehow they begin to pick up some animals, all by accident...

Candlewick Press and Net Galley gave me the opportunity to read this story in ebook form.  The book will be published in hardcover on February 28th.  This is a charming story that made me smile as I read it.

First they have some eggs the vet thought were spoiled that suddenly hatched into ducks.  Then Karl's aunt purchased two poodles on the internet, which turned out to be sheep.  And Meera found an abandoned railway station that would work well as a farm. Finding it is not the same as being able to use it.

This is an uplifting tale of children who want to make a dream come true and are willing to fight for it.  The thought that someone would mistake a lamb for poodle cracks me up.

Why not visit Meera, Gemma and Karl and see how they handle this project to create a farm in the city?  It will make you smile and will be a story that can be read again and again.

Happy reading.
