Sophie Washington: Things You Didn't Know About Sophie by Tonya Duncan Ellis

Sophie is a middle grader who has a big crush on Tony.  Unfortunately, he seems more interested in her friend.  She spends a lot of time trying to get him alone but has no luck.  She's also the only one in class who doesn't have a cell phone.  She hates being different!

The author and Goddess Fish Blog Tours gave me a copy of this book to read and review for their tour (thank you).  The book has been published and this is part of a series.  Each book has a message for the child reading it and it's presented nicely.  It doesn't sound like it's a lesson.

Sophie borrows another boy's phone to impress the girls with it.  She finds out she's missing chats with the other kids.  But she also gets caught by the teacher and now she has a real problem.  Her mother has to come down to get the phone and pay a thirty dollar fine for Sophie misbehaving.  The first question is where did you get the phone?  Poor Sophie.

It's hard to be different when you're young.  Sometimes people make fun of you.  But lying isn't the way to go and Sophie gets that message big time.

This would be a good book for a class, daycare, the library reading room or home.  If you and your child read it together, you can emphasize the important parts.  Maybe you could be the characters as you read it.  This is good learning tool.

Tonya Duncan Ellis will be awarding a $25 Amazon or Barnes and Noble GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.  Enter HERE.

Encourage your readers to follow the tour and comment; the more they comment, the better their chances of winning. The tour dates can be found HERE.

Happy reading and good luck!
