Horrorstor by Grady Hendrix

Are you looking for a scary read for Halloween?  This book fits the bill.

Quirk Books sent me a copy of this book for review (thank you).  It has been published, so check with your local bookstore for a copy.

This is a strange little story.  It reeks of corporate policy and influence, most of the employees are working there because they didn't find anything else and the top layer of business consists of a manager and performance issues.  The next layer down is evil, filled with ghosts and is real close to hell.

Someone has been making a mess of things after the store is closed at night.  The lights go off at 2AM and when they come back on, things have been moved or dirtied.  When it has gone on for several days, the manager decides to stay all night and asks two employees to accompany him.  The double overtime is attractive, so they say yes.  As the night goes on, they find two other employees have stayed behind.  They intend to find the ghosts causing the damage.  It's not all ghosts and they are going to be sorry they stayed.  All of them will be sorry...

The store is similar to an Ikea store and has various home furnishings set up to show off what you can do with their products.  This becomes a labyrinth at night in the dark.  And when a fake door opens and things begin to emerge, the world turns into a very dark place.

The author knows corporations can be ruthless.  He also knows how to write a horror story. You won't forget this one quickly.  It sort of slithers around up there in your mind.
