If you have lived your whole life under the sea and are just about to receive your mermaid tail, why would you forsake all to go visit the devastated earth above? Aluna has her reasons...
Candlewick Press sent me an ARC of this book for review (thank you). It is written for grades 5 and up and will be published in February.
Aluna's mother died at home because her father would not take her to the above world for medical care. Now Aluna sees other merpeople dying because the breathing necklaces they use are failing. She's old enough and has met the rituals to get her tail, but she can't get anyone to listen to her about the fact that people are dying. So she forsakes her tail and heads for the shore to look for answers.
This is an earth that has been devastated by war and eco-damage. Nothing is like it was before the conflict. Everyone has adapted in some way. And the war is still on going.
The book has a good feel to it. It has lots of action, the author's word flow well and tell the story succinctly. The words will entice readers to finish this story and be on the look out for the next one in the series. Aluna accomplishes a lot in this story, but there's much more to be told...
Add it to your TBR list and watch for it. If you like a good adventure and enjoy fantasy, then let this author lead you into an imaginary world that seems real.
And, if you're real anxious, I'm giving away the ARC I got to read. Just leave a comment on here on my blog and send me an email at info at bookfaerie.com with your NAME AND ADDRESS and tell me why you'd like to win the book. I'll pick a winner in about a week.
Happy reading.
