Body Broker by Daniel M. Ford

He lives in a houseboat now.  He's been in the Navy, used to be a cop and now he's a private investigator.  He works when he needs to and he needs to right now.  So when a cop buddy calls and asks him to help a woman he can't, he takes the job.

Santa Fe Writer's Project and Edelweiss allowed me to read this book for review (thank you).  It will be published September 1st.

Jack talks to the mother.  Her son is missing but he's 18 and the police only search for minors.  Jack agrees to look for him and starts gathering facts.  After checking with teachers and talking to students, he goes to visit the father.  He gets in a tussle with the bodyguards and leaves quickly.  When the receptionist calls and says she'd like to speak to him, he agrees to meet her, thinking he might get some information.  Instead he gets beat up by the bodyguards...

Then he meets a motorcycle gang that runs drugs.  All while trying to find an 18 year old boy...

He discovers one of the professors at the college is selling drugs at the school.  With all the drug connections, he turns that over to the police.  But he still hasn't found the missing boy.

He continues his search, has a few more problems with the biker gang, including a death threat.  Will he live long enough to find the missing boy?
