Flat Broke by Gary Paulsen

Kevin is in trouble AGAIN!!!

Wendy Lamb Books sent me a copy of this book for review (thank you).  It was published in July so you can buy a copy at your local bookstore now.

Kev got in big trouble for lying, so he's lost his allowance for a month.  This creates a problem for him because the school dance is coming up and he wants to take Tina.  He can barely bring himself to speak to her, but he still wants to take her to the dance.  So he works on coming up with ideas on how to make money.

Kevin always has big ideas.  It doesn't take him long until he figures out how to sell other people's talent and take a piece of the pie for himself.  But, like always, his ideas backfire on him and he finds himself in trouble again...

This is written for ages 8-12, and you can tell Mr. Paulsen remembers what it was like to be a young boy.  Kevin means well but somehow there's always a complication in his plan.

The story is a fun tale and the readers will get a charge out of how Kevin has to resolve one of his "get rich quick" schemes.  The author has a good series going here.

Happy reading.
