One Summer in Whitney Pier by Honourable Maryann Francis, ONS


This is the story of a minister's child.  She doesn't fit in too well with the older kids.  She'd love to play baseball but the kids won't let her.

Little Pea is very small.  He's not like the other kids and can do none of the things they can.

But he is an artist.  He builds his own house and decorates it. He's happy now!  He has a wind up car and his own office.  He makes the best of what he has...

The illustrations are great!

The Cat, the Owl and the Fresh Fish by Nadine Robert , Sang Miao (Illustrations)


This is an interesting tale...

The cat meets the owl who asks him to move a log because his claw is stuck.  But the cat sees a rowboat with a bucket of fish, so he says no.

The cat doesn't like water so he starts out by putting a big rock in the lake.  As he keeps looking for new things, the owl helps him.  Finally he removes the log and the owl flies over and steals the fish.  He forgot the owl was stuck...

The illustrations are lovely, and your child will learn not to be selfish...

Dead Before Dinner by Kat Bellemore


This was a pretty good mystery.  Two councilmembers are killed and they don't really have suspects...

One victim was a bitchy old lady, the other was a husband.  The old lady won't be missed but the wife of the husband misses him.

How they were killed and who killed them is the focus of the book.  The therapist is the major detective even if the sheriff doesn't like it.

It's a good story and they find the killers.  I was surprised by who did it...

This was a graphic novel about a small snowcat that was fun to read.

Their King's crown has been stolen and the youngest cat goes after it.

There is magic, shapeshifting, and more to keep your attention.

A young girl joins him and they look for the crown.  The girl is actually a wolf.  

When they find the crown, he transforms, too.

It was a fun read.

They find a woman dead.  Was it murder or death by natural causes?

A female cop gets on the case but it takes lots of twists and turns and money and drugs to wade through.

She doesn't give up though.  There are a lot of suspects.  Even the coroner can't figure out how she died.  But give the cop time and she'll nail it. She even figured out how the drugs were bringing brought in.

It was an interesting tale.  The ending is good.

The odd story I read was about a man whose mother had died.  Then his dad shows up and lives with him.  He's weird and smokes and drinks.  He could use some help because he's always searching for bobcats.  Then he disappears, too.

City Under One Roof by Iris Yamashita


This is a book with chapters by person and a murder to solve.

Berkley Books sent me a copy of this book to read (thank you).  It will be published on January 10th.

They all live in a small community and are cut off from town by a tunnel that is full of snow.  Cara Kennedy is a cop that is on leave.  But finding a hand and a foot that floated out of the water makes her want to work the case.  Then they find his head...

There is a lot of confusion and some bad guys are there too.  The bad guys get killed and so do some of the residents.  

Cara asks a lot of questions but doesn't always get answers.  She finds out who the dead man is.  She keeps digging for the solution.

It's a bit slow reading but you keep reading to see what happens.

It's an interesting book.

This book is a fantasy.  There are all kinds of fantasy animals in it!

Simon & Schuster sent me and ARC to read.  It will be published on April 4th.

It's the story of a girl who wants to know who killed her father.  As she searches she finds all these animals that her dad, a vet, took care of.  She finds if she touches them she can feel their hurts, their worries and more.

She has a long search ahead of her, not many friends, and her suspicions are wrong until the end.

This is a gripping tale about police, drugs and murder.

Not all cops are honest.  This story points that out.

The one we follow is and he is trying to find who killed a young woman cop.  He's also assigned to look for drugs.  And he finds out he's under suspicion.

Then his wife is kidnapped from the hospital and he wants to find her...

It was interesting and kept my attention.  If you like police procedurals, you'll like this book.

This is a story of a family, with secrets.

The family adopted a child but didn't disclose it.  The whole family is messed up.  There are men who are married but have lovers.  Some relationships get torn apart but then get repaired 18 years later.  Some of the men die from natural causes.  The women seem to survive.

Some marry without love.  It's an odd family.  

Eventually they find out the child is adopted.  You never know what is coming next...

Leeva is a little girl whose parents ignore her.  Mom wants fame, Dad wants money.

She sneaks out of the house and travels about meeting people who like her.  As she makes friends, she's happier.  But she gets caught by her mom and is confined in the house.  She doesn't like that and runs away.

Then she finds out the money her father collected is not his...  She develops a plot to steal the money back and give it to the people it belongs to.  That works.

She doesn't go go back to her parents.  In time they move on and she takes over the house.

She has friends and a home and likes her new life...

One man is killed when he falls down the cliff on rocks. It was no accident, someone shoved him...

Then two more were killed.  They were a group of men that worked together.

The remaining members find themselves watching carefully.  Who knows who will be next?

Veronica gets involved because her love is one of them.  

She gets shoved off a cliff, too, but survives because her skirt caught on something.  She can't figure out how to escape but her love comes after her.

It was amazing who the murderer is.  They even confess.

It was a good read but you need to pay attention to what is going on.

She experiments with various shampoos until she finds one she likes.  Then she begins growing her own business.  She is successful and has good life...

It was a servant who died and they thought she drowned but no.  She was hit in the head and it was murder.

Plum is trying trying to find out who did it when another woman dies.  She was stabbed.

There are a lot of suspects and it doesn't help until she finds a diary.  Then she knows who the killer is and gets everybody together to reveal it.

The killer denies it but Plum shows them how it was done.

It was a deceptive book but the truth came out...

It's a good thing she had a boyfriend.  He saved them and the killer was a surprise.  Carly never suspects that person of murder....

It's pretty sad how it all turns out but he does find the killer...

A rabbit sees the bear's predicament and goes to help him.  But the bear doesn't want his help.

There are no words but plenty of illustrations.

Finally the bear allows the rabbit to help.  It takes a bit but finally it comes off.

Then the bear and the rabbit are friends.

Great story for young ones.

This story will have you wondering who killed her.

The woman who was a good friend with the dead woman decides she will solve the case and do podcasts about it to keep her job.

She finds about incest and she realizes they are just attention grabbers, not true.  She bounces from from one suspect to another, but none of them are right.

After analyzing everyone, the killer is finally found.  I was surprised by the identity.  Can you figure it out sooner?

There is one woman who argues with everyone, tells people what to do and has plenty of enemies.  So it's no big surprise when she shows up dead..

She loved attention, and was considered mad by several people.  She talked about suicide.  But when they find her dead, was it suicide or murder?

Those left alive begin telling lies to save her husband.  After a while you are not sure  what the truth is.

You do find out who killed her but the jury said it was suicide.  So it all worked out fine...

This was a very deceptive story.  Men were having affairs.  The police are not all unbribed.  Can she find evidence to find the killer even if a cop doesn't want her involved?

I was amazed by the killer.  She did manage to find him out and he tried to kill her.  Good thing she had some help....

This is an anthology of short stories.  Most of them point out the black people ore abused by the white.

These stories made me a bit sad.  Too many times prejudice is what influences the outcome of the story.

I grew up with all kinds of folks, never paid attention to skin color.

The stories are  interesting and hold your attention.  Not everyone wins.  But enough do to make it worth reading.

Uni the unicorn offers to help the tooth fairy.  The only problem is that when they get back home, the tooth fairy has no gifts left for the little girl.  Uni comes up with something that will work.

The illustrations are lovely and the story is cool.  I enjoyed this read.

The man solving the cases is a seer.  He and his female assistant work together.  He likes to read palms but he solves most crimes by observations.  His assistant sometimes sees more than he does.

All the cases are different.  It takes his mind and hers together to solve the crimes.

I never had any idea who did it.  It made interesting reading!

This is a Teatime with Noah book.  It's picture book full of imagination.

It's a Thomas Nelson book that has been published.  You can buy a copy now.

Noah is a small girl that drinks tea with her dad.  She wants a ship to sail the ocean.  She creates a sign but she gets no responses.  So she and her dad decide to make their own ship.

They have some troubles along the way, but they finally get it ready.  Then they are off on adventures and Noah learns she has more strength and knowledge than she thought she had.

It's a cool story with good illustrations.  Your child should like it!
