There's a wildlife park here that has all the big animals of Africa in it. Botswana and its residents make money from the tourists that come in to tour the park. There's a big smart hyena that leads a pack and will steal prey from a lion. They have named her Kotsi Mosadi, Setswana for Danger Woman. When the Russian mafia arrive in town, they have a Danger Woman with them also...
Poisoned Pen Press and Net Galley allowed me to read this book for review (thank you). It will be published July 5th.
In Russia, you bribe who can and kill anyone who stands in your way. They anticipate no problems when they come to take over the new casino going in. They should have done a bit more research.
They move in, settle down and then begin manipulating things. They find bribes don't work well so they resort to bringing in more Mafia soldiers and doing a takeover. The difficulties they get are mostly due to one cop. He keeps using whatever resources he can find to give them problems. They get evicted by the hotel. More and more of their staff comes up missing. Cops use acting skills to be something they're not and it works. The local rangers who go after poachers are assisting. The man he wants to take out so he can have the casino flies away home and leaves him no victim. There's an undercover Russian who has been converted to an undercover informant. The cop is trying to make the man mad enough to make a mistake. The woman tries to control the man and stop him from doing it.
This is a story with lots of political ties, a bit of luck, and the help of nature to stop the takeover. Two animals of the park eat a couple of bad people, which was very ironic. Until you get to the end, you're not sure how this is going to shake out. It'll keep you reading.
