Janis Joplin Rise Up Singing by Ann Angel

You know her voice, but do you know about her life?

Abrams Books sent me a hardcover copy of this book for review (thank you).  This book has been published is currently available at your local bookstore.  It's written for young adults but can be enjoyed by all ages.

If you grew up in the 60's, you had to know Janice.  Her gravelly voice and personal style caught your attention.  And who can forget the line:  Oh, Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz...

In turn, her life was so short, I really didn't get to know anything about her.  This book gave me the opportunity to see what she was like and how she came to be the singer she was.

It's been forty years since she died, but she left a large mark on the world.  Her name is still familiar to many.  This book has dozens of photographs that reflect the times in the '60s.  Memories of Janice abound in the text.  It's really a tribute to her life.

Who she was and how she got there is a fascinating story.  Whether you liked Janice's music, are interested in the early days of rock and roll, or just want to laugh about what we wore then, this book has the info.

I highly recommend this book.  It's a slice of life from '60s.
