Cookies Calamity by Cindy Stark
When Evie St. Claire learns she’s the heir to a long-lost aunt’s entire estate, she momentarily believes she’s been rescued from her doldrum life. That is until the attorney delivering the news warns that it’s a ramshackle house, basically worthless, and worse, she’ll need to travel to the small lakeside town to take ownership and claim her great aunt’s remains.
Still, Evie’s never known family besides her parents who’ve now passed, and she feels obligated to carry out the woman’s final wishes. But when Evie arrives in Honeysuckle Springs, things aren’t as she imagined. Mostly because she didn’t expect to come across a murder victim within hours of her arrival nor learn that she’s also the owner of a mischievous cat who seems happy to vex her. Evie does her best to maintain a low profile so she won’t become a suspect in the case, but the handsome police chief won’t stop watching her.
Little by little, the town’s and her family’s shocking secrets are revealed. The question is, will they lead her to the killer? Even more, will they convince her to remain in Honeysuckle Springs? Or will she head back to the safety of her predictable life where everything is as it seems?
