Scrublands by Chris Hammer

Martin is a journalist.  He's back from the war zone he was working in but he still feels the horror of being locked in a car trunk and thinking he might die there.  They send him out to write a story about how the town is reacting as the one year anniversary of a multiple killing comes around.  He finds out a lot more...

Touchstone and Edelweiss gave me the opportunity to read this book for review (thank you).  It will be published January 8th.

This is set in the outback of Australia.  The town is almost dead.   When the priest came out on the steps and shot five men before he was killed, it shocked the whole town.  The survivors aren't happy people.  And there are lots of secrets here...

As Martin tries to piece together why a priest would kill the men that died, he finds out other odd things.  Not everyone in town is sane, there are bikers that travel through, no one wants to tell the truth, and it takes a lot of time to make sense of what happened.

You learn about the land, follow along after Martin wondering who did what, there are two more dead bodies found, and Martin gets fired.  The story holds your interest and doesn't reveal the truth until the end.  I wouldn't want to live in this town...
