A Risky Undertaking for Loretta Singletary by Terry Shames

Being a police chief in a small town shouldn't be that big a deal but it depends on the town.  The first thing that happens is a local goes missing.  No one knows where she went or what she was doing.  If that's not enough to shake things up, another woman her same age is missing in the next town.  When they find her dead, they really worry about Loretta...

Seventh Street Books sent me an ARC of this book to read for review (thank you).  It will be published January 15th.

With help from his younger employees, he finds out Loretta signed up for a dating site.  It had a section for seniors and that's where she was looking for some male company.  They are horrified to think that she might have met someone who wasn't a nice person.  Samuel tries to get other agencies involved in the hunt but they're not interested.  They think whoever it is will fleece her out of her money and move on.  Loretta doesn't have money, so Samuel is still worried.  He's also worried when he finds out the minister in town is a womanizer that also uses the dating site.

This tale turned out a lot differently than I thought it would.  The kidnapper surprised me, the reason for it was unusual, and it almost ended badly.

I enjoyed Samuel as a character, I like his lady cop a lot, and he manages calm his town down again.  I wonder what his next adventure will be?
