The Murder Pit (A Moose River Mystery #1) by Jeff Shelby

Daisy has started a new life with a new husband, a mix of his and hers kids, and her dream house.  It's true the house needs a lot of work but it has good bones.  Right now, it also has a frozen pipe and they are trying to thaw it.  Daisy finds a small door and forces it open.  The first thing she sees is tennis shoes.  Unfortunately, they have feet in them...

The author shared a copy of this book with me for review (thank you).  It has been published and you can get a copy now.

The worst part is that Daisy knows the dead man.  She went on one date with him.  Moose River is a small community and all of a sudden they all think she killed him.  It doesn't matter that she has no motive.  After all, he was found in her house wasn't he?

She's confronted by his ex-wife, who lies, and by his sister, who thinks she's a killer.  The police aren't finding the killer fast enough.  She's got to find whoever it was to clear her name.  But nobody saw anything...

The more questions she asks, the foggier the situation gets.  Nobody tells her the whole truth.  The dynamics between the personalities is volatile, and someone is willing to stop her.  Her husband tries to make her stop.  She doesn't listen.  She's close, she knows it.  She's so close she almost ends up dead...

I didn't see the killer coming.  I enjoyed the characters he's created and how the family gets along. This is the beginning of a good cozy mystery series and I enjoyed it.  Why don't you give it a try?
