Archie Dent knows there is a lot of danger in the world. What he doesn't know is that he is part of it...
Macmillan-Tor/Forge and Net Galley let me read this book for review (thank you). It will be published August 19th, so you can grab a copy then.
This story is set in an alternate 1875 when Native American Indians and Yankees are friendly and fighting against the Mangleborn. You'll meet Thomas Edison, Tesla, and hear about Ben Franklin. (Edison is crazy, by the way.) You'll also learn about the Septemberist Society, which was formed to protect the humans from the Mangleborn.
This is high adventure with touches of science fiction and fantasy. How the Mangleborn take over Archie's parents is one of my worst nightmares. It reminds me of a Star Trek movie I saw and that gave me chills, too.
I enjoyed this because it was a fast read with something happening on every page. There are sad parts, great triumphs, and when you reach the end you know there will be more to the series. After all, it's a League of Seven and they've only three so far... What fun!
