Princesses Behaving Badly: Real Stories from History Without the Fairy-Tale Endings by Linda Rodriguez McRobbie

I've read hundreds of fairy tales and a few historical accounts of women warriors but I've never seen so much information in such a compact form.  This book is filled with short stories and paragraphs about women I'd never heard of before.  Many of them behaved badly to get what they wanted.  Maybe there was a reason wives were beheaded in some families...

Quirk Books sent me a copy of this book for review (thank you).  You can buy a copy at your local bookstore now.

These are not pretty girls full of sweetness and light; these are schemers who fought, stole and partied while in power.  Some even murdered.  They are fun to read about.

In medieval times, no one was very nice.  The rich lived well, the poor died.  The best thing that could happen to a pretty girl would be chosen by the Prince or King in the area as a wife or concubine.  However, not all kings were nice either.

The women in this book hold their own.  They do what they do because they want to.  They want power, money and, in some cases, even love. You won't see these women in Disney movies.  I'm glad the author wrote about them.  These princesses were bad ass and I like it.
