Appaloosa Summer by Tudor Robins

Meg's horse had a heart attack while she was performing.  It died and she got a concussion.  She loved her horse and he performed well.

She ends up with another by doing chores.  She is not as well trained, so Meg works on her.

Jared is a boy she likes and he helps.  His little sister wants to ride her.  Meg lets her ride.

After all the tensions and Meg finds herself loving Jared and he loves her.

It's a good story.
