They've painted a mural on the fence but no one is tall enough (even on a ladder) to reach the top. When the little boy asks his Grandad how they will finish it, he tells him about the town's giant. He's heard tales about him before and thinks they are just tall tales. His Grandad tells him if he'd look, he'd see him around...
Abrams Young Readers sent me a coy of this book to read for review (thank you). It is being published today.
When he finally sees the giant, he's scared and runs. When he goes back, the giant is gone. He tells his Grandad what happened and asks how to fix it. Grandad asks him what would make him get over being rejected. Together they work on being friendly and it works.
Don't be afraid of someone who looks different or acts different. They're human, just like you. And they might make a very good friend.
