Otto is an elephant. Elephants never forget. He's going to find his pal, Georgie, the chimpanzee friend of his no matter how far he has to go to look!
Kids Can Press and Net Galley gave me the opportunity to read this book for review (thank you). It has been published, so you can find a copy at your local bookstore now. There are earlier books in this series and you may want to get them all.
Mr. Slavin always does very nice graphics to go with his stories. Crackers, the parrot, is striking; Otto is big and bit clumsy but charming; and Georgie, the chimp, visibly has an attitude.
The way to California is hazardous. When they arrive at the movie set where Georgie is now being a star, they're captured by ruthless talent agents. Then an animal rescue group comes in and saves Otto. Cracker is busy trying to be a star so he can get on the set with Georgie. Georgie tells him to get lost, he's a star now and doesn't need him.
These graphic novels are fun to read. Some parts make you laugh, some remind me of the old time cartoon characters, and you've just got to love Otto. He's so sweet, so sincere, and so determined to be the friend he used to be. Even Georgie seems to realize that friends are important at the end. Just like you and I already knew.
