Melody McKay is not a lady. She's an engineer and she lives her life without needing a man. So it's a bit embarrassing when someone shoots her dirigible out from under her and she crashes in the front yard of the Earl of Blackwell. Especially since she sprains her ankle badly and can't leave.
Carina Press and Net Galley allowed me to read this book for review (thank you). The book will be published May 19th, and you will can get a copy wherever you buy ebooks.
I wish these came in print. They're great fun to read with all kinds of danger and fretful romances. I like the steampunk aspect and the type of fantasy adventures Ms. Pape comes up with. Since they don't I've bought some in ebook form. I just wish they'd do them in print, too!
Melody wants nothing more than to get well and get out of Blackwell's house. Victor finds her an inconvenience, too. Especially since she's bonding with his niece and teaching her bad habits. He's willing to listen to her advice, though. He's never been married or had children and he doesn't know what to do with his niece. He, of course, wants her to be a well brought up lady so he can marry her to a good match. Melody is less than enthused about that course of study.
There's smuggling, murder, secret passage ways, a dragon submarine, mechanical crabs and more involved in this adventure. Watching Melody and Victor clash and change is part of the fun. She won't marry him because he wants a proper lady for his wife. He won't marry her because she wants to continue experimenting with dirigibles and traveling. Somethings got to give.
Here's another great adventure and romance story. This is book seven of the Gaslight Chronicles. You might want to get them all...
