Bernie and Chet make a good team, but this challenge is almost beyond them...
Atria Books and Net Galley allowed me to download an ebook of this story for review (thank you). It has been published, so check with your local bookstore for a copy.
Remember that saying: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is? Bernie should have paid more attention to that before he accepted this job. It didn't sound hard, just protect a movie star. It mostly meant protect the movie star from himself so it shouldn't have been a big challenge. That's where everybody involved was wrong. Bernie really needs Chet in this story. Chet protects him, bites hands with guns, and saves Bernie's life more than once.
There's an old murder case, a current murder case or two, and Bernie's on the spot. In the meantime, his girlfriend has moved to another job and no longer lives in town. He can't focus on that because he's on the job, but he can't forget it either.
This is a strange little mystery with odd characters and connections and it kept me reading. Besides, I love Chet and couldn't wait to see what he did in this book. OK, Bernie isn't bad either, but he's taken. He might not know it yet, but he is.
Why not hang out with Chet and Bernie for a while and have a little excitement? You even get to meet some other dogs. I was referring to the canine kind, not the human kind. Although you do meet a few of those, too.
Happy reading.

It's a good thing I don't live near a book store and have lots of cash, because I can honestly say many of the books you review, especially the murder mysteries catch my attention.
Great reviewer obviously. Thanks.
