The Beadworkers by Beth Piatote

This book is filled with tales of the Native Americans of the Northwest.  There are mixed-genres here.  A poem here, a play there, and thoughts and stories in between.  I have Indian relatives that could add their stories about the past...

Counterpoint Press sent me an ARC of this book to read for review (thank you).  It will be published October 22nd.

The stories will make you think about the past.  White men did not treat the Indians very well.  The Indians fought for their rights and many died.  The stories in this book share some of that history.

The story that resounded with me was Beading Lesson.  The woman wants to teach everyone to bead but not everyone wants to do that.  It's probably becoming a lost art.  I crochet but not many young people do any more.  I buy beaded goods when I find them, they are lovely work.

You learn about the fishing wars and other parts of history.  Reading this will stick with you for a while.
