Deep Sahara by Leslie Croxford

His wife has died and he's looking for a new direction in his life.  He draws insects and has a new book to illustrate.  But after visiting with a priest, he decides to go deep into the Sahara and stay at a monastery there.  He should have time to get his head together and he'll have a chance to find and illustrate new bugs.

Goddess Fish Blog Tours and the author allowed me to read this book for review (thank you).  It has been published and you can buy a copy now.

When he arrives at the monastery, not one welcomes him or opens the door to the compound.  He finds a convenient ladder and climbs over the wall.  What he finds is a disaster.  All the monks have had their throats cut...

I was expecting a murder mystery.  This is a psychology journey of one man who is trying to come to terms with his own destiny.  He has no monks to visit with but he stays there anyway.  The police try to get him to leave.  He refuses.  He's going to be sorry he didn't take their advice.

He learns the nuances of the desert, meets a young woman looking for dinosaurs, and gets caught up in a conspiracy started years ago.

He's introspective and not very communicative.  But when he does start talking, he has a lot of naysayers.  The desert doesn't like having its secrets given up...

Happy reading and good luck!
